This Is... Danny K
Danny K has been on and off the DJ scene since 1991, back then he played a lot of hardcore and techno and was briefly involved in a pirate radio station playing a lot of music from suburban base records, moving shadow and XL Recordings.
He then took a small break from the scene until 1997 when he began working as a resident DJ at a local club called Biancos in Stockton on tees, by this time he had changed his focus to House and Trance concentrating more on the commercial releases on AM:PM, Manifesto, Data Records (Sound of Ministry) to name a few. He had a regular Tuesday night and a co-hosted night with another DJ on Saturday night doing both warm up and dance section. As well as being a resident at the club Danny K would also create mixtapes and CDs to sell around his place of work and started to build a fan base up and down the country, these were know as the V-Style compilations (some are available on his mixcloud profile today). This led to a couple of individual bookings in Bristol and Darlington and the North East.
He then retired from the scene in 2001 to concentrate on family and career, sold off equipment but held on to all the vinyl he had collected over the years.
In 2016 Danny K decided that he needed to do something with all the vinyl laying around the place so a slow two year digitisation process began and a purchase of his first controller was made. Then in May 2018 he decided to start sharing some of the digital mixes he created with a couple of people via mixcloud. In June/July 2018 he decided that it was time to start taking things a bit more serious as his uploads started to get attention and his follower count started increasing.
In August 2018 Danny K submitted a demo to Questlondonradio.com nd began a regular 1 hour show on a Sunday evening on questlondon at 10pm GMT which was well received. Since then he has continued to be a regular contributor to quest with a new show being made available every week.
Danny K has a mash up style of Dj’ing and will regularly play a combination of House Sub Genres (Vocal/Soulful/Funky/Nu-Disco/Deep/Tech), recently concentrating on sub Genre shows and Label/Producer Tributes.Historical Musical influences include Armand Van Helden, Mousse T, Todd Terry, Chicane, Agnelli & Nelson and Paul Van Dyk. More recently Purple Disco Machine, OFFAIAH and DJ David Penn.
